After years in the financial services sector, Lim Geok Keng and her husband, Christopher Lim, transformed their passion for kombucha into a thriving business, Châteaux, located in Singapore. The couple, both 53, have turned a home-brew venture into a premium kombucha microbrewery and bistro since their initial foray into brewing began in 2018.
Inspired by a friend's homemade kombucha that surpassed commercial options, Geok Keng dedicated two years to perfecting recipes and brewing methods. They emphasized the artisanal nature of kombucha, contrasting it with mass-produced beverages. Each batch undergoes rigorous testing and can take up to three weeks to complete, including fermentation and the addition of flavoring ingredients.
Châteaux aims to elevate kombucha's status in Singapore, aspiring to be recognized as the "TWG of kombucha." Christopher highlighted the health benefits of their product, which includes promoting gut and heart health, thus making the drink accessible to a broad audience. The couple's commitment to quality ensures that their kombucha stands apart in a crowded market.
