Carbon Robotics has garnered attention for its innovative approach to weed elimination in agriculture, notably from U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.. On a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, he praised the startup's technology, which enables farmers to reduce pesticide usage and lower costs. Kennedy highlighted the significant savings experienced by the largest onion producer in Texas, who reported over $1,000 saved per acre through the use of these machines.
The company's LaserWeeder G2 employs advanced AI to identify weeds and remove them with lasers, all while preserving soil health. Founded in 2018, Carbon Robotics has raised $177 million and employs approximately 260 staff, operating a manufacturing site in Richland, Washington. Paul Mikesell, the CEO and founder, expressed a desire for increased investment in agricultural technology to boost productivity and enhance food quality.
This emphasis on technological advancement in farming aligns with Kennedy's call for a shift away from pesticides, suggesting that new innovations could rapidly transform agricultural practices. Earlier this month, he also mentioned Carbon's contributions on another podcast, reinforcing the growing recognition of such technologies in sustainable farming.
