The ongoing debate surrounding KDE Plasma and its relationship with systemd has prompted KDE to release a FAQ aimed at dispelling misinformation. While the Plasma Login Manager does require systemd, KDE asserts that users have the option to disable it and utilize alternative login managers.
Recently, the KaOS team announced their decision to transition from KDE Plasma to Niri after 12 years of collaboration, citing concerns about being tied to systemd. This shift has intensified discussions regarding KDE's dependency on systemd, with some users claiming that Plasma forces its use.
KDE's official response clarifies that the Plasma Login Manager is merely one of several options available for booting Plasma. The organization emphasizes that they will not enforce systemd dependencies on any other Plasma components. The KaOS developers have not yet responded to KDE's statements but plan to continue allowing Plasma installations through their repositories.
