The introduction of iOS 26.5 brings significant enhancements for iPhone users, including the long-awaited feature of encrypted RCS messaging. This update is crucial for those using an iPhone model 11 or newer, as it improves security for text exchanges between iPhone and Android devices. Users can initiate the update by navigating to Settings, then General, and selecting Software Update.
With the rollout of this version, a lock icon will now appear in RCS chats, indicating that messages are encrypted, a feature that was previously absent. While this encryption is now available, it is labeled as a beta feature by Apple and may depend on mobile carrier support.
In addition, advertisements are set to debut in Apple Maps, a first since the app’s inception over 13 years ago. Local businesses will have the option to promote their services within the app, enhancing user experience based on geographic location. This advertising feature is currently marked as "Coming Soon" on the Apple Ads website.
