In a significant update for developers, Google has announced the integration of third-party calling applications with the Phone by Google and other system dialers. The latest version of Jetpack Telecom, v1.1.0, offers enhanced visibility and functionality for Voice over IP (VoIP) applications.
This integration allows users to view call logs from third-party VoIP apps directly in their native dialers, eliminating the need to switch between different applications to check call history or return missed calls. Users can now initiate callbacks to VoIP contacts from the system dialer, enhancing convenience.
Google has also introduced a Call Log Exclusion feature, enabling developers to prevent certain calls from appearing in the system call logs. This capability is particularly useful for maintaining privacy and managing app-specific communication preferences. The integrated features will be available on devices running Android version 16.1 (SDK 36.1) and above, with rollouts beginning with Google Meet.
