Effective June 18, Google will cease operations for its Gemini Code Assist and Gemini CLI tools for consumer users, transitioning to the new Antigravity CLI. This strategic shift is aimed at enhancing user experience by consolidating efforts into a single platform tailored for contemporary multi-agent workflows.
Google's decision reflects a response to user feedback regarding the need for improved functionality and collaboration among tools. The new Antigravity platform promises a more efficient interface, despite acknowledging that it may not initially match all features of Gemini CLI. Key capabilities such as Agent Skills and Extensions will remain available.
While consumer-level tools will no longer be available after the shutdown, enterprise users can still access Gemini Code Assist without changes. A full termination of the application is set for July 17, when all code review functions will cease for consumer accounts.
