On Friday, Anthropic unveiled its new AI design tool, Claude Design, which is expected to challenge established design software like Figma. The tool enables users to create polished visuals such as app prototypes and marketing materials using simple text prompts. It is currently being rolled out as a research preview to subscribers of Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans.
Powered by Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Design allows users to upload codebases and design files to generate a cohesive design system that applies a team’s branding across projects. Users can refine the initial designs through conversation, comments, or direct edits. The finished projects can be exported in various formats, including PDFs and PowerPoints.
Already, the tool has been utilized to create realistic prototypes and marketing materials. Anthropic positions it as a means for both experienced designers and non-designers to quickly visualize their ideas. Following the announcement, Figma's stock saw a decline of approximately 7%, highlighting Wall Street's perception of Claude Design as a potential disruptor in the design software market.
