The latest update for Visual Studio Code, version 1.109, has begun rolling out to desktop users across Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms. This release continues Microsoft's initiative to enhance VS Code as a hub for multi-agent development, incorporating both artificial intelligence (AI) features and other enhancements.
Among the significant updates are improvements to AI chat functionality and inline code suggestions. Users employing the Anthropic Claude model can now observe the model's reasoning process in real-time. Additionally, the chat interface has introduced a new 'context window' popup to help manage token usage across various interactions. The terminal experience has also been upgraded, with new safety features and syntax highlighting for inline code in Python, Node, and Ruby, enhancing readability.
Visual Studio Code 1.109 also includes experimental Light and Dark themes aimed at improving user focus and interface aesthetics. These new themes are designed to provide a fresh visual experience, featuring elements such as shadows and transparency, although they remain disabled by default for users.
