Xcode 26.3 has been unveiled by Apple, introducing the use of agentic coding tools such as Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex directly in the app development environment. This update enhances the capabilities of the IDE, allowing AI models to utilize more features for complex automation tasks. Developers can access the Xcode 26.3 Release Candidate immediately from the developer website, with a subsequent release to the App Store planned.
This new version builds on the previous Xcode 26 release, which added support for ChatGPT and Claude. The integration allows agents to assist in project exploration, understanding structure and metadata, building projects, and running error tests. Apple collaborated closely with both AI providers to optimize the performance of these tools within Xcode.
Developers interested in utilizing agentic coding must download relevant agents from Xcode’s settings and can link their AI provider accounts by entering their API keys. A dropdown menu will enable them to select which model version to employ, while a prompt box allows for natural language commands to modify projects.
