The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has reissued a recall for the Casely Power Pods 5,000mAh MagSafe charger following multiple reports of injuries and one fatality linked to the devices. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the chargers, dispose of them properly, and seek replacements from the manufacturer.
Originally recalled a year ago, approximately 429,000 units of the E33A model had been reported for overheating and fire hazards, resulting in 51 incidents. A recent tragic event involved a 75-year-old woman in New Jersey, who suffered fatal injuries when her charger exploded while in use.
Additionally, another incident this year occurred on an airplane when a 47-year-old woman experienced first-degree burns from a similar explosion. The USCPSC emphasizes the ongoing risk associated with these devices, which are identifiable by the Casely logo on the front and the E33A model number on the back.
Replacement units are being offered, and those interested must label their battery packs as "recalled" and provide photographs showing the model number. Safe disposal is crucial; users should contact specialized facilities for handling lithium-ion batteries to avoid hazards.
