Apple's highly anticipated smart glasses will now be released in late 2027, a delay from earlier expectations of a 2026 announcement and early shipments. This update comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who cited developmental challenges faced by the company.
Tim Cook, the outgoing CEO, has emphasized the importance of this project, viewing it as a top priority. His successor, John Ternus, has been leading the product development team for the last two years and is considered a key figure in the project’s advancement.
The glasses are designed to feature several innovative elements, including oval-shaped cameras, various colors, and multiple frame styles to differentiate them in a competitive market. Research from Counterpoint Research indicates the smart glasses market is in its infancy, having grown 139% year-over-year in the latter half of 2025.
In addition to capturing photos and videos, the smart glasses are expected to include microphones and speakers for phone calls and music playback, as well as a multimodal AI that can interact with users through Siri. Apple has not yet provided a comment regarding this announcement.
