During a recent event at Pioneer Square Labs in Seattle, a group of 67 students from the University of Washington showcased their startup ideas to a panel of investors. This dynamic gathering marked the conclusion of a 10-week course focused on entrepreneurship, where students develop comprehensive business plans and product demonstrations.
The course, instructed by venture capitalist Greg Gottesman and esteemed computer science professor Ed Lazowska, featured participation from notable industry figures including Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Microsoft CFO Amy Hood. Seven teams, representing various disciplines such as business and design, presented tech solutions addressing the needs of diverse groups, from new parents to seniors, with a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence.
This year’s pitches were enhanced by a unique format, incorporating a high-pressure scenario where students faced interruptions during their presentations, simulating real-world challenges. Gottesman highlighted the reciprocal learning experience, noting that the students often provide fresh insights into AI applications and innovative problem-solving methods.
