In the fall, Alpha School will launch its first Seattle-area campus at 620 Fifth Ave. S. in Kirkland, accommodating up to 150 students. The Austin-based private school chain is set to begin its weekly summer programs on Microsoft’s Redmond campus by late June.
The innovative curriculum allows students to engage in core academics for only two hours daily, leaving ample time for life skills, projects, and extracurricular activities, with no homework assigned. Co-founder MacKenzie Price emphasizes the school’s mission to foster character development alongside academic learning.
Price's family ties to the region and recognition of its progressive education values motivated the school’s expansion. Notably, tech entrepreneur Joe Liemandt plays a pivotal role in the school’s vision, focusing on personalized learning through technology while avoiding reliance on “cheat bots.”
The school refers to its educators as “guides,” offering competitive salaries to attract talent. Alpha School aims to reshape educational experiences by prioritizing engagement and mastery over passive learning methods.
