Poke, a startup that simplifies AI interaction, has received approval to operate on Apple’s Messages for Business platform, making it the first AI agent to do so. This platform was initially limited to businesses like airlines and retailers, enabling them to communicate with customers via iMessage.
Since its launch in March, Poke has facilitated over 100 million messages, assisting users with tasks such as daily planning and smart home management through text messaging. The AI service previously operated on platforms like SMS, Telegram, and WhatsApp, and now expands to include iMessage.
The announcement arrives just before Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, where new AI features are expected to be unveiled. While there are speculations regarding the App Store's potential opening to AI agents, Poke's integration focuses on enhancing business communication rather than consumer apps.
Marvin von Hagen, co-founder of Poke, indicated that the startup will compensate Apple for its platform access, paving the way for a new business model in AI services.
