NASA's Artemis II mission is making history as astronauts utilize cutting-edge technology to capture images during their lunar flyby. Commander Reid Wiseman showcased a remarkable photograph of the Moon taken on his iPhone 17 Pro Max while the spacecraft maneuvered close to the lunar surface.
In a first for the agency, the crew is permitted to use personal smartphones during the mission, with four iPhone 17 Pro Max devices onboard alongside other cameras like the Nikon D5 and Nikon Z 9. The astronauts have been actively sharing their images on NASA Johnson’s Flickr account.
As they approached the Moon, the crew turned off cabin lights to improve their photography conditions. Wiseman confirmed that his lunar image was taken with an 8x zoom, capturing the Chebyshev crater. As of now, the crew is engaged in post-flyby activities, including sending photos back to Earth, with updates expected on the Flickr account soon.
