YouTube is set to enhance its content protection features by rolling out a new AI deepfake detection tool for all creators aged 18 and above. This initiative aims to assist users in identifying unauthorized uses of their likeness in AI-generated videos on the platform. The announcement was made on May 16, 2026, via YouTube's community page, emphasizing the goal of ensuring creators feel secure regarding their image.
The tool was initially available only to members of the YouTube Partner Program, along with journalists and politicians, following its preview in 2024. Now, every eligible creator can access this feature, which allows them to request the removal of videos that misuse their likeness. Users must enroll through YouTube Studio, where they will complete a verification process that includes submitting a government ID and a selfie video.
Once registered, the tool will automatically scan uploaded content for any matches with the user’s face. If a match is found, creators will receive notifications about potential unauthorized uses, enabling them to take action promptly. This update comes at a time when distinguishing between genuine and AI-generated content has become increasingly challenging.
