In a pivotal development for quantum computing in Spain, a partnership between IQM Quantum Computers and Telefónica will result in the installation of two quantum systems at the Galician Supercomputing Center (CESGA). This collaboration marks the first deployment of IQM's technology within the country, featuring a 54-qubit IQM Radiance system for high-performance computing and a 5-qubit IQM Spark system aimed at educational initiatives. Both systems are expected to be operational by June 2026 and will be supplemented by the new Finisterrae IV supercomputer, enhancing capabilities in areas such as artificial intelligence.
Sylwia Barthel de Weydenthal, IQM's Chief Commercial Officer, noted that this project is crucial for establishing a viable quantum ecosystem in Spain. Additionally, Sergio Sánchez, Chief Technology and Information Officer at Telefónica España, commented on the partnership’s potential to improve access to advanced computing resources for researchers and businesses, reinforcing Spain's role in the development of next-generation technologies.
Separately, IonQ has renewed its partnership with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) to implement a 100-qubit IonQ Tempo quantum system within KISTI-6, facilitating research through a secure cloud environment. In the financial sector, SEALSQ recently reported a market valuation exceeding $1 billion and outlined its strategic roadmap for 2026-2030, emphasizing growth in quantum computing.
