A substantial donation of $1.95 million from Autodesk will enhance Howard University’s construction engineering and management program. This funding is designated for developing a curriculum that prepares students for roles in AI-centric industries, emphasizing leadership in advanced construction projects through digital design and construction methodologies.
The initiative aims to cultivate a diverse group of professionals within the construction sector, focusing on experiential learning and interdisciplinary studies. Interim president Wayne A. I. Frederick, M.D., MBA, recognized the partnership's significance in a recent announcement, underscoring a mutual commitment to student success in a technology-focused environment.
Previously, Autodesk contributed $5 million in 2024 to establish the College of Engineering and Architecture Makerspace, which spans 3,400 square feet and enhances hands-on learning experiences for students. This space is designed to foster collaboration among future Black engineers and inspire STEM education at various educational levels.
According to Autodesk’s Chief Marketing Officer Dara Treseder, the partnership reflects a shared vision of expanding opportunities for talent across diverse communities. This latest donation coincides with a growing emphasis on AI literacy among Historically Black Colleges and Universities, as institutions strive to equip graduates for the demands of a rapidly evolving job market.
