The Home Depot is set to roll out enhanced AI tools aimed at improving customer interactions, as announced during the NRF 2026 conference. The partnership with Google Cloud focuses on creating a more personalized shopping experience for both homeowners and contractors. By utilizing Google Cloud’s AI capabilities, the company aims to provide real-time assistance for managing complex material orders and offering actionable project advice.
Key advancements include an upgraded Magic Apron assistant and AI-driven product list builders for professionals. This initiative allows users to communicate their project needs in simple terms, enabling customized responses from the AI. Future updates will introduce advanced features such as image uploads for better project guidance.
The integration of Google Cloud’s Gemini models will facilitate an accessible, AI-first experience throughout various settings, from home projects to store aisles. Currently being tested in select locations, the Magic Apron assistant also integrates local inventory data, directing customers to specific aisles and providing expert recommendations. Jordan Broggi, EVP of Customer Experience at The Home Depot, emphasized the goal of making expert advice readily available to all customers.
