The innovative AI software CrossSense, designed for smart glasses, has received a significant boost with a £1 million award aimed at aiding those with dementia. Developed by CrossSense Ltd, this technology features Wispy, an AI assistant that provides verbal cues and text prompts while also facilitating social interaction for its users.
Supported by Nesta and the Alzheimer’s Society, the Longitude Prize awarded to CrossSense emphasizes the urgent need for effective solutions as dementia cases are expected to rise to around 150 million globally by 2050. The projected retail price for the smart glasses could reach up to £1,000, with a monthly subscription for the accompanying service estimated at £50. Szczepan Orlins, CEO of CrossSense Ltd, mentioned that the prize funds will accelerate their product's market introduction.
A smartphone version of the software is set for release by the end of this year, while the smart glasses are anticipated to be available by early 2027. The company plans to conduct a four-week pilot study in late 2026 to gather essential data on the glasses' effectiveness in real-world settings.
