The recent announcement regarding the limited public launch of Claude Mythos Preview by Anthropic has raised alarms about potential cybersecurity threats. This latest artificial intelligence model is currently being shared with around 50 select technology companies, including industry giants like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Apple, under an initiative called Project Glasswing.
Concerns have escalated due to the model's ability to autonomously identify and exploit software vulnerabilities, a capability that could have severe implications for national security and public safety. In a warning issued on its website, Anthropic emphasized that the rapid advancement of AI could lead to widespread misuse of these technologies, prompting U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to hold a meeting with Wall Street leaders to address these risks.
In South Korea, the Ministry of Science and ICT convened an emergency briefing with cybersecurity firms to develop counterstrategies. The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore has also raised alerts for critical service operators in sectors like banking and telecommunications, advising them to prepare for potential threats, as Claude Mythos Preview has already uncovered thousands of high-severity zero-day vulnerabilities.
