Apple is set to implement significant changes to its smart assistant, Siri, with a focus on enhancing user privacy in the upcoming iOS 27. A recent report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman highlights that Siri will introduce features uncommon in other AI chatbots, particularly the ability to auto-delete chats, similar to functionality available in Apple's Messages app.
Users will have options in the Siri settings to determine how long conversations are stored, with choices of retaining data indefinitely, for one year, or for just 30 days. Additionally, the assistant will allow users to select whether to start with a new chat or view a "grid" of previous interactions upon launch.
To further safeguard privacy, Apple plans to impose stricter limits on Siri's memory capabilities, potentially restricting the assistant's access to past conversations, unlike some competitors. Furthermore, Apple aims to market its AI experience as "ad-free," differentiating itself from services like OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has introduced sponsored ads.
