Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled the AWS Agentic Shopping Assistant, an AI-driven tool aimed at enhancing retailers' e-commerce platforms. This assistant is designed to engage with customers, provide product information, and offer tailored recommendations based on individual store inventories. Retailers can expect to implement this feature within approximately 60 days.
Leveraging technology similar to that used in Amazon's Alexa for Shopping, which generated nearly $12 billion in additional sales last year, the AWS tool is part of Amazon's strategy to extend its internal technologies as services for other businesses. This launch places AWS in direct competition with other tech giants like Google, which is integrating AI shopping features into its search results, and Microsoft, which is enhancing its Copilot with checkout capabilities.
According to Accenture, by 2030, AI agents could manage over 30% of online commerce, translating to approximately $3.1 trillion in transactions. As the competition intensifies, AWS aims to attract retailers looking to develop their own AI shopping experiences while utilizing Amazon's proven e-commerce expertise.
