In 2026, Amazon plans to enhance its consumer AI offerings significantly, aiming to extend the capabilities of Alexa+ beyond traditional smart speakers. The company unveiled a revamped Alexa mobile app during CES in Las Vegas, emphasizing a streamlined design that prioritizes interaction with the AI assistant.
The new app features an “Ask Alexa” prompt and personalized suggestions for users, making it easier to navigate devices and favorites. Additionally, Alexa+ is now accessible via the browser at alexa.com for customers in the early access program, allowing for document uploads and integration with web-based chat.
Amazon's latest moves come as it seeks to keep pace with competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini, which dominate the consumer AI landscape. Daniel Rausch, Amazon's vice president of Alexa and Echo, noted that lessons learned from an earlier conversational feature called “Let’s Chat” informed the development of Alexa+, which aims to deliver enhanced conversational capabilities and new functionalities such as booking services.
With over 600 million Alexa-enabled devices in circulation, Amazon is strategically positioning itself to leverage its existing technology in this rapidly evolving market.
