The use of AI in video production is reshaping creative processes, as evidenced by a recent stop-motion shoot for Kiro, an AI-driven software development tool from Amazon Web Services. During this project, a Seattle-based crew utilized AI to enhance the efficiency of their animation techniques, allowing them to achieve results that would have been labor-intensive through conventional methods.
Brice Budke, president of the video agency Shep, and Zeek Earl, executive creative director at Packrat, spoke about their experiences with AI in a recent GeekWire Podcast. Both studios are known for their innovative approaches, with Packrat previously recognized for their acclaimed Seahawks schedule release video and the indie film "Prospect."
Despite the potential benefits of AI, Earl highlighted that the technology does not always lead to cost savings. He emphasized that generating a single effective shot might require as many as 1,000 attempts, posing challenges in terms of time and expertise. The duo also noted that intuition and artistic judgment remain crucial as the industry evolves.
