Sound Games, a startup based in Seattle, has secured $6.5 million in seed funding to enhance its development of video games that can be played on multiple platforms with a single purchase. The company aims to implement a “pay once, play anywhere” model, allowing gamers to access their purchases across PC, console, and mobile devices without incurring additional costs.
Founded by Mike Schmid, along with co-founders Jacobo Abril and Sergio Abril, the 12-member team is focusing on creating high-quality, replayable games that minimize in-game purchases. Schmid brings experience from his previous role as head of publishing at Rec Room and as a vice president at Backbone.
Scheduled for release on February 18, Sound Games’ inaugural title, Go Ape Ship!, exemplifies the company’s cross-platform strategy, enabling seamless transitions between devices. The funding, led by Point72 Ventures, will facilitate the development of additional original titles and the expansion of the team.
