Qumulo, a data management firm based in Seattle, is expanding its operations with the establishment of a new software research and development hub in Cork, Ireland. This initiative, announced on Friday, aims to create 50 jobs over the next three years, marking a significant step in the company’s growth strategy.
The hub will focus on utilizing artificial intelligence to enhance the management of global-scale data infrastructure. Qumulo’s Chief Technology Officer, Kiran Bhageshpur, highlighted Cork as a strategic location for assembling a team dedicated to this mission. Several other tech firms, including Amazon and F5, also have a presence in Cork, with Apple recently unveiling plans for a new office that can accommodate up to 1,300 employees.
Founded in 2012, Qumulo has established itself within the competitive landscape of AI-driven data management. The company, which raised $125 million in a series E funding round in 2020, faces challenges from an evolving market and previously implemented layoffs in 2022. Under the guidance of CEO Douglas Gourlay, Qumulo is positioning itself to capitalize on the increasing demand for AI-ready data.
