After the recent closure of Dark Outlaw Games, Jason Blundell, a former creative lead at Activision Blizzard, has established a new development studio named Magic Fractal Studios. This announcement came during a livestream alongside JC Farmer, a colleague from Dark Outlaw Games, just over a week following the previous studio's shutdown by Sony.
Details about Magic Fractal remain sparse, with only its logo and social media presence available to the public. In contrast, Dark Outlaw Games had a similarly enigmatic profile and ceased operations before revealing any projects. Notably, Blundell clarified that Dark Outlaw was not engaged in developing a live-service game, a factor that has been linked to several studio closures in the gaming industry.
Blundell's new venture marks his third studio since departing from Activision Blizzard in 2020. He initiated Dark Outlaw Games with Sony's support in March 2025, following a stint at Deviation Games, which was also shuttered in 2024 while working on a PlayStation title.
