Karim Meghji has been appointed as the new president and CEO of Code.org, a nonprofit based in Seattle dedicated to computer science education. This transition follows the lengthy tenure of Cameron Wilson, who will now serve as an executive advisor after more than 12 years with the organization.
Meghji previously served as the chief product officer at Code.org after joining in 2022 from Remitly, where he was the chief technology officer. His leadership is expected to further enhance the nonprofit's AI-centered strategy. Founded in 2013, Code.org has expanded its reach significantly, with over 102 million students and 3 million teachers currently using its platform, and it has generated 232 million projects globally.
In addition, the organization has reported that its AI curriculum has positively impacted more than 6 million students, while over 25 million students have participated in its “Hour of AI” initiative. The organization currently employs 107 people after recent layoffs, and founder Hadi Partovi will maintain his position as chairman of the board.
