Project Prometheus, a startup co-led by Jeff Bezos and Vik Bajaj, is focused on developing advanced design tools for engineering rather than robotics, as initially speculated. During an interview on May 20, 2026, Bezos clarified that Prometheus is working on an “artificial general engineer,” which he described as an evolved form of computer-aided design (CAD).
Prometheus was established with an impressive $6.2 billion in initial funding and has since secured a further $10 billion in a funding round that valued the company at $38 billion. The company has attracted around 120 employees, many of whom hail from leading tech firms such as OpenAI and DeepMind.
Bezos expressed his personal commitment to the venture, stating that he has invested significant time and energy into the project. He emphasized that while the tools being developed will greatly benefit his space company, Blue Origin, Prometheus should be regarded as an independent entity with its own focus.
