Samir Bodas, the co-founder of Icertis, passed away at the age of 61 after battling cancer. His death comes after he stepped down as CEO last August to focus on his health. Icertis is recognized as one of the region's valuable startups, boasting a valuation of approximately $5 billion.
In 2021, Bodas was nominated for the GeekWire Awards as a finalist for CEO of the Year but chose to withdraw, emphasizing his preference for team recognition over individual accolades. This decision showcased his leadership style and commitment to his team.
Former Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, a long-time friend of Bodas, reflected on their friendship that began over 30 years ago when they both started at Microsoft. Their bond deepened as they later became co-owners of the Seattle Orcas, a Major League Cricket team.
Soma Somasegar, managing director at Madrona Venture Group and another former Microsoft colleague, noted Bodas's dedication to Icertis, recalling his passion for building the company. Bodas's enthusiasm was evident when the opportunity arose to bring Major League Cricket to Seattle.
