Joyce Lian, a 30-year-old entrepreneur, has successfully established her own fragrance brand, Scent Journer, which sells thousands of products, including on Sephora’s online platform. Her journey into the world of fragrances began in 2013 when she enrolled in a perfumery and cosmetic science course at Singapore Polytechnic. During her studies, she interned for 10.5 months at International Flavours & Fragrances, where she developed her skills in scent formulation.
After memorizing 147 raw materials, Joyce honed her keen sense of smell, allowing her to discern the intricate layers within perfumes. She later pursued a degree in Chemistry at the National University of Singapore, completing it in an accelerated 2.5 years, graduating in 2018. Following a brief stint as a technical specialist in the cosmetics industry, Joyce transitioned to a role as a personal financial consultant at OCBC in 2020, which she left within a year due to her longing for a career in fragrance.
Despite the challenges in Singapore's limited perfumery market, Joyce's passion for creating fragrances led her to launch her own brand, reflecting her dedication to the art of scent.
