Bruce Harrell has been appointed as the new CEO of Filium, a Seattle-based company specializing in sustainable textiles. This transition marks a significant shift for Harrell, who previously served as the Mayor of Seattle until losing his reelection bid in November 2022. Filium, established in 2015, focuses on creating stain-resistant and odor-repellent natural fabrics, positioning itself as a sustainable alternative to synthetic materials.
The company, founded by apparel industry veterans Raj Shah and Akhil Shah, has raised $540,000 through a Kickstarter campaign in 2016. Harrell succeeds Raj Shah, who will remain as chairman of the board. Doug Lynch, the president of Filium, highlighted Harrell’s unique blend of leadership skills and operational expertise, emphasizing his role in driving the company’s growth strategy.
Harrell expressed enthusiasm for his new role, acknowledging the growing consumer demand for products that align with environmental and wellness values. Filium aims to lead the evolution in textile manufacturing without the use of harmful PFAS chemicals, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
