WhatsApp is rolling out an update for Android that introduces more rounded chat bubbles, enhancing the visual experience of messaging. This change, included in the v2.2.6.10.2 update, replaces the traditional speech bubble design, aligning messages more closely with the display edges and eliminating wasted space.
In addition to the aesthetic overhaul, Meta plans to launch a new “Premium” tier for WhatsApp, which may offer features such as custom app icons, unique themes, and the ability to pin more chats than the free version allows. Beta users may notice a banner in the Settings menu prompting them to join the waitlist for this subscription service, though participation is optional.
While the exact launch date for the Premium tier remains uncertain, it is seen as a potential revenue stream for Meta, aiming to capitalize on WhatsApp’s vast user base. Furthermore, the app is expected to incorporate traditional passwords alongside two-factor authentication and expand video and voice call functionality to its web version.
