Surf, a new feature from Flipboard, was launched on Thursday, providing users a streamlined way to connect various social media interests. This platform aggregates content from diverse sources such as podcasts, videos, and social media into a single feed, allowing for easier navigation of topics like politics and entertainment.
To get started, users can create an account at Surf.social, where they can curate their own feeds, connect with others, and embed content from platforms including Bluesky, Threads, YouTube, and Mastodon. The platform also features a beta search engine to help users find relevant posts based on specific interests, from cooking to technology.
According to Mike McCue, CEO of Flipboard and Surf, the platform enables creators to consolidate existing online discussions instead of starting new ones. This unique aspect of Surf is designed to eliminate irrelevant content, contrasting with other social media sites that often clutter users' feeds.
The Surf app is currently in beta on Google Play and is expected to launch on the Apple App Store by the end of April.
