Instagram is exploring the introduction of long-form videos on its platform, a possibility previously dismissed by the company. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, acknowledged in a recent interview that the platform may eventually require premium content, including longer videos, to enhance user experience. Currently, the company emphasizes short-form videos and is content to leave longer content to competitors like YouTube.
In a bid to improve user control over content, Instagram has launched a new feature called Your Algorithm. This allows users to see their top interests and influence the algorithm by selecting topics they wish to see more or less of in their feeds, particularly in Reels. While this adjustment is viewed as a minor change, Mosseri hinted that more significant updates are on the horizon that could transform the way users interact with content.
Despite the current focus on brevity, Mosseri's comments suggest a potential shift in Instagram's content strategy, indicating that the platform could embrace long-form videos in the future as user preferences evolve.
