On December 3, Grab officially launched its new GrabAssist feature aimed at enhancing travel for passengers needing mobility assistance. This initiative coincided with the ASEAN Disability Forum Conference 2025 and International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The service is tailored for senior citizens, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and users of mobility aids, ensuring they receive the support they need during transit.
Currently, GrabAssist operates exclusively in the Klang Valley region, where approximately 100 driver-partners have undergone specialized training to assist with mobility devices like wheelchairs. These trained drivers are equipped with GrabAssist kits, which include communication tools to facilitate better interaction with passengers. Users can book GrabAssist rides via the Grab app, with options available from 75 minutes to 90 days in advance.
The vehicles used for GrabAssist are from the Plus range, providing ample boot space for mobility aids. Furthermore, the app features an in-app chat option for passengers with communication challenges, allowing them to relay specific needs to their driver-partners. Grab's Director of Country Operations & Mobility, Rashid Shukor, emphasized the company’s commitment to inclusivity and plans for future expansion of these services.
