Cyber threats are escalating, particularly those fueled by artificial intelligence, according to a new guide from the Department of Government Enablement. This document, part of the “Our Community is Ready” initiative, outlines six significant cyber risks that tend to rise during emergencies. These include phishing, online fraud, account breaches, malware, identity theft, and AI-enabled fraud such as deepfakes.
Dr. Mohammed Al Kuwaiti, a prominent figure in cybersecurity, highlighted the role of AI in contemporary cyberattacks, especially by hostile groups, including those from Iran. He explained that AI tools are increasingly used for malicious activities like reconnaissance and phishing enhancement. The guide stresses that during crises, individuals are particularly susceptible to scams due to heightened fear and urgency.
To combat these threats, the guide advises people to be vigilant, relying on official sources and verifying information before sharing. It also warns against common mistakes such as clicking on unknown links or reusing passwords. Additionally, individuals are cautioned about messages requesting personal information or involving unexpected money transfers, as these are often signs of fraud.
