Recent findings reveal that more than half of surveyed organizations, specifically 55%, reported experiencing a browser-based attack or a near-miss within the past year. This data comes from a report by Omdia, commissioned by Parallels, which surveyed 400 IT and cybersecurity professionals. The report highlights a significant trend: 68% of organizations are noticing an increase in security incidents related to web browsers.
Among the browsers used in enterprise environments, Google Chrome is the most widely supported, with 88% of organizations officially backing it. Microsoft Edge follows closely at 84%. However, Safari, which is common among Mac users, has a lower support rate of 46%. Notably, 27% of organizations have indicated that Safari is used informally, suggesting that many users may be relying on an unmanaged browser, creating potential vulnerabilities.
Bradley Chambers, who has extensive experience managing an enterprise IT network, emphasizes the importance of addressing browser management as part of a comprehensive strategy to protect Apple devices in the workplace. As browser-based attacks become more prevalent, IT administrators must take action to better manage these tools to mitigate risks effectively.
