Valve is preparing to launch its living room gaming console, the Steam Machine, this summer, as confirmed in a recent blog post. While no exact release date is available, the console is expected to debut alongside the Steam Frame, Valve's virtual reality headset, which was initially introduced last November.
Designed to connect to a television, the Steam Machine will be housed in a compact, approximately 6-inch cube format. It aims to provide a user-friendly PC gaming experience, making it easier for developers to optimize games for a unified hardware specification similar to that of the Steam Deck. Although the Steam Machine's hardware could outperform the standard PS5 and Xbox Series X, Valve does not consider it a direct competitor to these consoles.
The pricing for the Steam Machine remains uncertain, with current market conditions, including a shortage of PC memory, potentially driving costs higher. Valve initially announced a release timeframe for early 2026 but has since updated this to a summer timeline, suggesting a shift in strategy amid the evolving gaming landscape.
