Frostpunk 1886, an upcoming remake of the original city-building game, is scheduled for release in 2027. Developed by 11 bit Studios, this version will utilize Unreal Engine 5, allowing for enhanced graphics and easier updates compared to the original game, which was built on the Liquid Engine.
Game Director Maciej Sułecki expressed confidence in the development process, emphasizing that leveraging Unreal Engine 5 will enable the team to create a long-lasting platform for future content, including downloadable scenarios and improvements. The original Frostpunk, released in 2018, faced limitations that hindered additional content development, a challenge that the new engine aims to overcome.
With experience gained from developing Frostpunk 2 using Unreal Engine 5, the studio plans to incorporate visual technologies from that title into the remake. Sułecki believes that this approach will facilitate smoother development and enhance the overall gaming experience for players.
