The character Wyll Ravengard in Baldur’s Gate 3 has been noted by players for feeling less developed compared to other characters. During a Reddit AMA on Friday, senior writer Kevin VanOrd discussed the challenges faced in crafting Wyll's narrative, indicating that his storyline was split between two arcs involving his infernal patron Mizora and the Ravengard family.
VanOrd mentioned that Wyll's content was “sparser” than desired, and many of his story elements were finalized late in the game's development. A significant plot point intended to feature Wyll prominently was ultimately cut, leading to his characterization as the son of Duke Ravengard. This decision came about shortly before VanOrd's illness impacted his work on the project.
Additionally, a sub-quest called the Wyrmway was developed for Wyll, which came after saving Ulder Ravengard or breaking his pact with Mizora. VanOrd expressed regret over how Wyll’s arc was divided, acknowledging it as a “mistake in hindsight,” yet he remains proud of the character's portrayal, highlighting his “sincerity, good nature, and eager heroism.”
