The upcoming launch of Xreal's Project Aura smartglasses marks a significant advancement in augmented reality technology, aiming for a more immersive entertainment experience. The smartglasses, which build upon the design of the company's One Pro model, incorporate three cameras: two for hand tracking and a central one for capturing photos and videos.
During a demonstration at Google I/O, the glasses displayed a sharp 70-degree field of view, enhancing the viewing experience even in bright outdoor conditions. Users can navigate the interface through familiar hand gestures, with reliable detection for resizing and moving windows. Unlike previous models, Project Aura requires a tethered connection to a separate device resembling a phone-sized puck, which includes a trackpad and fingerprint sensor.
While the glasses performed well during the roughly 20-minute test, they did heat up in the nearly 90-degree weather. As Xreal prepares for the official release, the company has yet to disclose detailed specifications or pricing for Project Aura.
