Samsung will discontinue support for its Samsung Messages app in July, affecting users across the United States. This decision comes as the company has shifted focus to Google Messages, which has been the default messaging app for new Galaxy devices since 2024.
The transition means that users relying on Samsung Messages will need to act swiftly to avoid losing their texts and chat history. Samsung has provided guidance on how to switch to Google Messages, even for those still using Android 12 and 13. Features of Google Messages include RCS-enabled texting, AI-powered spam detection, and improved group chat functionalities.
Messaging on Samsung Messages will be limited to emergency services once the app is deactivated. Although users with Android 11 or earlier versions will not be directly impacted, they are encouraged to transition to a supported messaging application to enhance their experience. Users of older Galaxy Watches will also face limitations in accessing their conversation histories following this change.
