A touchscreen MacBook is expected to be launched, as confirmed by leaker Instant Digital through a post on Weibo, asserting that development is "100% confirmed." Although this announcement does not clarify a specific release date, it suggests that design and production processes are well underway.
Analysts, including Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities and Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, have previously indicated that the anticipated launch could occur in late 2026. This model is expected to feature both a touchscreen and an OLED display, marking a significant upgrade for the MacBook line.
With the potential arrival of the touchscreen MacBook, the current notch design may be replaced by the Dynamic Island, similar to that found on iPhones. The new device will run on MacOS 27 Golden Gate, which will introduce features designed to enhance touch functionality, including a "Swipe down to refresh" option for apps like Safari and Mail.
Additionally, Golden Gate will expand touch support for the Sidecar feature, allowing users to interact with MacOS elements directly through touch, beyond the previous limitations of two-finger gestures. This positioning of the MacBook aligns closely with familiarity for existing iPhone users.
