The upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold on December 19 in Singapore marks a significant entry into the foldable smartphone market, with a price tag of S$3,988 for the 512GB version. This model introduces a three-fold design, expanding the current advancements in foldable technology.
While Samsung is late to the market, following the launch of Huawei's Mate XT last September, it aims to solidify its position through a strategic patent approach. The company has been securing protections for its tri-fold technology since mid-2021, ensuring its innovations remain competitive, particularly in the rapidly growing Chinese market.
Although Samsung previously led with a 60–70% global market share in foldables, its influence has waned in China, where local brands like Huawei now dominate. Huawei captured nearly 70% of the foldable smartphone market in China during the first three quarters of this year, reflecting a shift in consumer preferences.
