Sales of the Galaxy Z TriFold in South Korea will reportedly conclude on March 17, just three months after its launch. This decision follows a trend where the device was offered in limited quantities, quickly selling out online. Industry insiders suggest that Samsung designed the TriFold as a technology demonstration rather than a commercially viable product.
Approximately 3,000 units were sold in initial batches, with no review units distributed to media outlets. The retail price for the TriFold is around $3,000, and it will remain available in the US until current stock depletes. In South Korea, the phone's resale value briefly surged to nearly three times its original price on the secondary market.
Rising costs of essential components, including DRAM and NAND flash, have significantly eroded profit margins for the device. Samsung's approach mirrors past experiences with the original Galaxy Fold, which faced delays due to early failures in review units.
