Google is implementing a redesign of its pop-up alerts in Google Maps, aimed at enhancing user experience for Android Auto drivers. This update is currently being rolled out, though the exact trigger for the change remains unclear. The new design will display alerts directly over the estimated time of arrival, allowing existing interface elements to remain in place. Alerts will briefly appear with “Yes” or “No” options before disappearing, minimizing disruption during navigation.
This redesign follows feedback from a 2025 poll where many users expressed that the previous pop-up alerts were distracting. The original alerts, which replaced written directions temporarily, had garnered mixed reactions, with some users finding them beneficial while others felt they hindered driving.
The update is expected to improve clarity for drivers across various vehicle displays, including models like the Subaru Crosstrek and Kia Niro EV. Users are encouraged to share their experiences with the new alert system as it becomes available.
