A concerning issue has emerged involving Motorola smartphones, where an app update is redirecting users from the Amazon app to a third-party website. This occurs specifically when accessing the Amazon app from the app drawer, causing a brief flash of the browser before redirecting, a behavior first identified by a Motorola Razr 60 Ultra user on Reddit.
The problematic behavior is linked to the Smart Feed app, included on many Motorola devices, including the latest Razr models. A network log indicates requests to “devicenative.com,” which is associated with ad placements on smartphones. Testing revealed that the hijacking does not happen on earlier versions of the Smart Feed app, with the issue arising after an update to version 2.03.0070.
Interestingly, the redirect leads to “kira-abboud.com,” a site connected to fashion influencer “@kirasfashionfinds.” However, this URL does not appear in Abboud's social media profiles, and the affiliate codes being utilized, such as “sramz-kff-008-20,” do not align with her known codes. This situation highlights concerns about privacy and user consent on Motorola devices.
