Mitsubishi has announced the introduction of the 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV, marking its entry into the electric crossover market. This vehicle is derived from the current-generation Nissan Leaf, featuring Mitsubishi's unique styling and enhancements intended to distinguish it from its predecessor.
The Eclipse Sportback EV, which will be front-wheel drive and equipped with a single-speed automatic transmission, is slated to be a more affordable electric option. The Leaf, upon which it is based, currently has a starting price of $29,990 in the U.S. Despite its modest performance metrics, including a 214HP motor and a 0-60MPH time of approximately 6.9 seconds, it boasts a respectable range of 303 miles and supports fast charging, including compatibility with Tesla Supercharger stations.
Mitsubishi has stated that it will reveal further details, including pricing and specifications, for the Eclipse Sportback EV soon. This model is part of Mitsubishi's broader strategy, outlined in its five-year Momentum 2030 plan, aimed at revitalizing the brand through a focus on electrification and annual new or refreshed models.
